CDC.gov’s guidelines to use a Metered dose Asthma Inhaler with Video

When using the inhalers for the first time, maybe difficult. These packages generally come with instructions for use. If you are being prescribed this inhaler at a clinic or hospital, most nurses or doctors will instruct you in the correct use of the device.

The patient need to expel as much air from the lungs first; then place the mouthpiece of the inhaler in the mouth and close the mouth firmly around the mouthpiece. The canister is then depressed to expel the medication in the mouth; which comes out in mists. While this is being done, simultaneously the patient needs to inhale fully. For each dose to be effective, the patient needs to stop their breath for a few seconds to allow the medication to take effect.
